Creating represents a long-term self-challenge for our team expertise and for future projects, ending up in positive results, not only for us, but also for the visitors.

Sibiu is a medieval city situated in the centre of Romania. Its tourism and economic potential inspired Ropardo to start promoting the values of this city on the Internet. sibiu-online portal started from the necessity to offer up-to-date information about locations, useful addresses, commercial centers, services, sightseeing spots and news they might need to Internet users from Sibiu and from the entire country. The portal wants to become a guiding mark both for citizens and tourists.

As the portal is designed to offer free services, an important element to be taken into account was the reliability from the point of view of cost for the entire development process. The portal had to be easy to maintain, update, and not need special hardware or special training for the non-technical personnel. Also, the portal had to be found attractive for a large target-group and to remain easy to access even with weak connections.

Why a public portal?

A public web portal is a specially-designed Web page which brings information together from various sources in a uniform way. Usually, each information source gets its dedicated area on the page for displaying information (a portlet); often, the user can configure which ones to display. Variants of portals include mashups and intranet “dashboards” for executives and managers. The extent to which content is displayed in a “uniform way” may depend on the intended user and the intended purpose, as well as the diversity of the content. All this ensures a high number of visitors from interested people.



After a searching and testing period for many open source solutions, the problem related to project development was outrun by the fact that the chosen solution delivered much of the functionalities desired and the solid structure for developing supplementary functionalities in an efficient manner from the cost point of view. This solution is designed and realized so that it allows the site administrator to modify the information displayed in real time with minimum effort.

We select WordPress as CMS for the implementation of portal and we developed new extensions for different services that were desired for portal. The plugins that we used in WordPress enabled a good security of the website


In order to realize such a portal, a flexible solution is needed. This must allow a large number of visitors to consult the online pages in a most simple manner. For the site administrator, solution must allow to manage efficiently the information published on the site.

Also, the configuration of the exterior aspect of the portal imposed as a necessity finding an adequate solution for an interactive and dynamic site. In order to accomplish all the demands and criteria shown above, which we had to take into account when designing our portal, we chose a Content Management solution.


This solution provides many advantages: speed, facility to use both by administrators and by non-specialized users. All of these obtained with a minimum effort and reduced cost.

By accessing this portal the users have the possibility to benefit of diverse, continuously updated first-class information, covering a series of points of interest, useful both for inhabitants of the city and tourists.
